| Dad's Army |
David Croft (co-writer of Dad's Army) died during the run
so Thorpe Players decided to dedicate the remaining shows to his memory. It's hard to think of
a better tribute.
There were three episodes, each using the original TV script. Excellent performances from Dave Montgomery (Mainwaring), Leon Kreft (Wilson) and Mike Button (Corporal Jones). Support from Justin Self as Pike, Jim Green as Fazer, Gerry Oakley as Walker/Cheeseman and Glyn Bailey as the bumbling Godfrey. Mrs Fox was played by the irrepresible Maggie Edwards, Mrs Gray by Isobel Munday and Mrs Pike by Trish Kreft. Len Bennet never seems to tire of playing authority figures in uniform and made an excellent colonel. As the plot of each story unfolded the comedy became more and more hilarious and the audience joined in even calling out "Don't tell him Pike!" at the appropriate moment. An excellent evening of comedy and many thanks to Lesley Dawson and Dave Watson for directing it |
