The scene is an island in the South Pacific during WW2 as the United Sates
forces attempt to overthrow Japan. US marines, pilots and Navy nurses are
stationed on the island to do their bit for the war. Needless to say there is
interaction between the visitors and the local polynesian population. This leads
to issues of race as well as culture and it should be remembered that attitudes
to such things were very different from the views we would take today. In the
end, as with all the best stories, love conquers all and prejudice is overcome.
There's nothing like a happy ending is there?
Superb performancesfrom Rebecca Gotts, Leon Kreft
and Dave Montgomery, ably supported by Dave Watson and Lesley Dawson, a stunning
set and a host of memorable songs meant a very pleasant evening for all
